Meet the Doctors
Deborah Sema, DMD, MS
Dr. Debbie Sema has practiced dentistry and orthodontics since 1998 and works to give the best care possible to her patients.
Education
Dr. Sema is a graduate of Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. She received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in 1994. She remained there to complete a year of Advanced Education in General Dentistry before entering the master’s program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, which she completed in 1998.
Advanced Education
Dr. Sema has been awarded a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics – another example of her continued pursuit of excellence in her practice of orthodontics. She completes more than the required continuing education each year in order to keep fully up-to-date in her profession. She is certified as a Preferred Provider for Invisalign and Invisalign Teen and is also trained in systems including Damon Braces and Insignia Advanced Smile Design.
Volunteer positions
Dr. Sema is a Past President of the Alabama Association of Orthodontics and the Alabama Orthodontic Alumni Foundation. She is currently serving in the Executive Council for the Birmingham District Dental Society and Dean’s Leadership Council for the School of Dentistry.
Community Positions
Dr. Sema is a member of the Rotary Club of Homewood and Chamber of Commerce. She also serves on the Safe and Healthy Homewood Coalition, which is an organization dedicated to helping children and all members of the community remain drug and alcohol free.

Chris Vlachos, DMD
Dr. Sema enjoys working with her mentor, Dr. Chris Vlachos, at his central Homewood office.
Dr. Vlachos holds dental degrees from the University of Athens, Greece and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). In addition, he received a Master’s degree in Occlusion and the treatment of Temporo Mandibular Joint disorders (TMJ) from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (1984) and completed his specialty training in Orthodontics at UAB (1986).
Dr. Vlachos served as full time faculty at UAB department of Orthodontics from 1992 to 1997 and continues to teach part-time at UAB. Dr. Vlachos is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics as well as a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, UAB Orthodontic Alumni Association, American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association, and Birmingham District Dental Society.
