Dr. Sema grew up on the Alabama coast and attended Spring Hill College in Mobile. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, she moved to Birmingham to pursue her DMD at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She remained at UAB for a postdoctoral residency, Advanced Education in General Dentistry, and to complete her master’s degree in Orthodontics in 1998. 

After graduation, Dr. Sema practiced in the Birmingham area as well as in Mobile. She opened her current private practice in the historic train depot in West Homewood in 2003, where she enjoys combining history with the latest technology. She also started practicing in McCalla in 2012 at McCalla Dental, and now has her own office at the Tannehill Promenade.

Dr. Sema has served in leadership with the American Dental Association at the local and state level, serving as President of the Birmingham District Society in 2018. She is past president of the Alabama Orthodontic Alumni Foundation and the Alabama Association of Orthodontists. She most recently served as the President of the Southern Association of Orthodontists in 2023. 

Dr. Sema is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, an honor only 1 in 3 orthodontists shared at the time she completed her certification in 2013. Dr. Sema maintains her Board certification and is committed to staying current with continuing education for her and our team. 

Dr. Sema loves serving her community through her practice and volunteer organizations. She is an avid Alabama football fan and enjoys time at the lake and the beach with her family, friends and white lab, Dolly.
